WVYB Schedule & Safety Plan

WVYB SAFETY PLAN

Group sizes:  For the safety of all participants, rehearsals will be under 25 persons to allow maximum distancing and the safest and easiest entry and exit protocol. The room can accommodate up to 28 seats with greater than 6ft spacing between all chairs, in all directions. With under 25 persons, we exceed requirements.

Participating from home: to accommodate those WVYB musicians who may not feel comfortable attending in person, or are feeling unwell, cameras and screens will be set up so they may play along with their colleagues live. To participate online, members must have a working camera and microphone on their computer to participate online - no exceptions.

Masks: Our members are required to arrive and depart wearing a mask. Those not playing wind instruments are asked to keep their mask on throughout rehearsals. Musicians playing a wind instrument will use covers. All staff will wear a mask throughout rehearsal.  The WVYB has ordered reusable masks in the band colour and logo available for purchase for $5.00 ea to keep with your instrument.

Hand Sanitizer: is available at all times and every musician will be asked to use it as they enter and exit the room.

Instruments and aerosols: numerous studies have shown that wind instruments trap a great deal of the aerosol that is produced from similar forced-air activities such as singing or shouting. To help trap any remaining aerosols while playing, cloth coverings will be placed over instrument openings. Everyone is asked to make their own covering and this will provide some colour and personality, making a difficult situation a little more fun. We will have some cloth available for those who aren't sure what to do. (material: cotton fabric using elastic or clothes pegs to keep the cover in place).

Air handling system: The community centre is a modern building with excellent air handling and filtration. Air filters in the WVYB Music Hall have all been changed this week.

Shared instruments: Shared instruments: double basses and percussion equipment. Musicians playing these instruments must use hand sanitizer on entry and the instruments will be cleaned after each use.

Entry and ExitArrive - no more than 5 minutes before rehearsal and enter through the northeast door of the atrium (entry from the underground parkade is locked). The door northeast atrium door will be marked "WVYB entrance." Use this door only, then proceed directly down the stairs to the Music Hall. All members will exit through the emergency stairwell to avoid having the members passing each other. (The stairwell exit door leads to the upper parkade off Gordon Avenue.

Please have a look at the video:

Elevator use: This is restricted and is only for those who are unable to use stairs. Double bass and tuba players for whom the stairs can be awkward and dangerous are welcome to use the elevator.

Bathrooms: As most rehearsals are under an hour in length, we ask that if possible, you use the washroom at home before coming to rehearsal to help limit the use of the washroom adjacent to the Music Hall.
